Trustee Profiles 2018

Alison Bennett

Current Position:  Diocesan President

I am keen that we engage with our communities in a meaningful way that is based on need. Our work is so varied that there is always something that captures the imagination whether that be campaigning to improve the lot of women and girls (all over the world) or enabling people to learn to read and become fiscally independent.

I love reading, cooking and knitting but my sewing skills are appalling!

Christine Benyon

Current Position: AVP for South Bucks.

I worship at St. Mary’s Church, Langley, where I am leader of its MU Branch. I am passionate about what the MU offers in our churches, such as friendship and help through projects (both inside and outside the church).

I am Chairperson of St. Mary’s Church Social Committee, a Sunday School teacher, Intercessor, team member supporting Night Shelter for the Homeless, and Committee member and distributor of the Langley churches’ Around Langley magazine.

I am Vice-Chairperson of The Slough and District Welsh Society. I am a members of the P.C.C and D.C.C and run the Women’s World Day of Prayer.

Revd Lady Denise Brown

Current Position: Diocesan Chaplain and Safeguarding Officer

I am passionate about the work Mothers’ Union does in this country and across the world changing people’s lives, from helping rough sleepers in this country to enabling women in many parts of Africa to read and earn their own living.

I worship and lead worship in the East Downland Benefice, a group of nine rural churches just north of Newbury in Berkshire.

I have a degree in Computer Science and a post-graduate certificate to teach Physics. Science and faith do not contradict each other!

Rachel Buckley

Current Position: AVP for North Bucks and Website manager

I am passionate about Mothers’ Union as a campaigning organisation. We have highlighted through our local, national and international campaigns that we can make a difference for women and families.

I worship at St Peter & St Paul’s, Newport Pagnell.

I am also passionate about science, specifically Physics and Astronomy, and I own three telescopes.

Louise Butler

Current Postion: Unit Coordinator for Finance & Administration, Gift Aid Secretary

I am keen to work with my MU branch, The Churn, to make a difference in people’s lives by supporting families and older people.  I feel passionate about letting others know how relevant MU is in church and society and want to encourage younger people to be a part of this world-wide organisation. As a trained parenting facilitator, I am also “passionate about parenting”.

Place of worship: Associate Priest of the Churn Benefice; home church is St. Michael’s, Blewbury

I’m a competitive tennis player and currently enjoying coaching one of my granddaughters.

Rennie Buxton

Current Position: Area Vice President for Oxfordshire

I am passionate about Mothers’ Union for the friendship of like-minded people and the opportunity to put into practice the aims of the Mothers’ Union and become involved with the mission work we carry out.

I worship at St Edburg’s Church, Bicester

I have an allotment where I can relax and watch the fruits and vegetables grow while also feeding the robin and blackbird. I also enjoy reading.

Norma Clarke

Current Position: AVP Central Buckinghamshire, Unit Co-ordinator for Fundraising and Communications

I am a member of Hughenden Mothers’ Union – a large branch of over 40 members – and I enjoy putting the threads of this group into the Diocesan, National and International work of the Mothers’ Union.

I worship at St. Michael and All Angels, Hughenden.

I have been a campanologist (bell-ringer) on and off for 60 years.

Jean Vaughan

Current Position: AVP East Berks

I’ve been a member Mothers’ Union for almost 20 years having joined as a result of being encouraged to get involved in a knitting project that St Paul’s, Wokingham, branch were doing.  I was branch leader before being asked to take over the Deanery so now look after East Berkshire.  Being involved with the Trustees is very rewarding.

I feel honoured to be part of a worldwide organisation that helps so many people to improve their lives and lobbies for change.

You may be interested to know that I spent two weeks helping to care for pandas in China so I’m probably the only MU member who’s stroked a panda!

Maureen Weston

Current Position: Action & Outreach Co-ordinator. Diocesan President Elect (for 2019 triennium)

I have worked with young families for many years. More recently I have encouraged Action & Outreach work such as promoting AFIA holidays. I am involved with Mission Support at Christ Church Abingdon and my husband and I lead the annual holiday for senior church members. I enjoy singing, walking, travelling and doing cryptic crosswords.
