2020 Diocesan Prayer

Here is our prayer for 2020…

Faithful God,
we praise you for your steadfast love and the truth of your eternal word;
the rock on which we build our lives.
Give us new hope and the confidence to trust your promises,
that as we reach out in loving service to families both near and far,
we will find you already ahead of us,
bringing your Kingdom into being,
in every community,
in every family,
in every heart.
Amen

2019 Diocesan Prayer

Loving Lord,
we accept the path laid before us knowing that you will be with us to the end.
We accept the call of Christ, whose voice we know and trust to guide us through our lives.
Each one of us receives from you the gifts for the tasks you want us to do.
Give us open ears, eyes and hearts as we adapt to meet the needs of this present age so that we can act with insight and integrity to make a difference in our world.
As we walk into the future with faith may our pace be set by our perfect guide;
neither running ahead nor lagging behind but always in step with you, our God.
Amen.

Praying Through The Day – printable resource

Praying Through the Day book

The Bishop of Reading, Rt Rev’d Olivia Graham, has given this endorsement of our Praying Through The Day resource…

One of my earliest memories is of being tucked up in bed by my mother, and saying prayers, always ending with

Day by day, dear Lord we pray
To see thee more clearly
Love thee more dearly
And follow thee more nearly
Day by day.

This pack is full of encouragement and reassurance to families, each one different, to find its own rhythm and style of prayer and to create the space to deal with life’s puzzlements and big questions.  And it has much to teach adults, as we each grow in confidence in our Christian lives, about our daily need to praise God, to ask for what we need, and to see our whole lives through a lens of thankfulness.
I warmly commend it to you, and God bless you and your family as you grow closer together and closer to God.

Indoor Members Prayer Circle

IMPC is a part of the Mothers’ Union for those members who are unable to attend meetings and participate in activities but who wish to remain members and be active supporters of our organisation.

IMPC members receive cards on their birthday, Christmas and at Easter as well as letters from our designated Correspondent in the diocese and from our World Wide President and the Diocesan President.

As a full member of the Mothers’ Union they continue to receive the magazine Families World Wide (which is also our Prayer diary) and our Diocesan magazine, Focus.

Our Indoor Members form a powerhouse of prayer for Mothers’ Union without whom we would be very much the poorer.

There is a leaflet for those members new to IMPC which can be found here.

MULOA Prayer

MULOA LogoMay God enable us to become the people he has called us to be and,
in everything we do, may our lives honour the name of
Jesus Christ our Lord.
May he inspire us and move us to action
so that we fulfil his will in response to his amazing grace,
so freely given to the world.

Amen

Praying Through the Year

Enriching our prayer life

This resource includes creative ways to pray and new ideas for leading prayer. There are fourteen sections that could be used at meetings, services or events throughout the year. Each theme also includes prayers on the given topic, a Bible verse and if used as a whole should take about 15 minutes to complete. These resources can be used in their entirety or just to stimulate further ideas. They can be the basis of collective prayer or used at other times on your own. A list of resources needed for each idea and where to source them is included.

The Themes are:

You can download the whole document, individual sections and the templates from our Resources section

Please take time to regularly pray for the people listed on the Diocesan intercession calendar, our various events and our projects and include our Diocesan prayer in your branch meetings.
This prayer speaks to us in Oxford Diocese, affirming what God would have us do and challenging us to carry out his purpose.

Verse of the Day

“For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord for ever.” — 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17 Listen to chapter Copyright © 1973, 1978, 1984, 2011 by Biblica. Powered by BibleGateway.com.
