On 14th July over 200 members gathered at Dorchester Abbey to give thanks for the work of Mothers’ Union in Oxford Diocese over the past 130 years, and to look forward to the challenges ahead.

It was members picnic in the Abbey groundsa glorious day, many of us took advantage of the weather and enjoyed a picnic in the Abbey grounds before exploring the Abbey using the very well presented Prayer Walk leaflet.Banners processing

During the service, many banners were processed and we listened to two wonderful pieces of music especially written for our Mothers’ Union.

Bishop StevenBishop Steven preached on the text “The harvest is plentiful but the labourers are few: therefore ask the Lord of the harvest to send out labourers into his harvest” (Luke 10.2), and we also heard about some of our diocesan projects and prayer links.

RefreshmentsAfterwards we enjoyed tea, soft drinks and a superb celebratory cake before setting off home, refreshed in body and spirit.

Many thanks to all those involved in making this day a wonderful celebration of Mothers’ Union in our diocese.

Here is a copy of Bishop Steven’s sermon.
