Wave of Prayer
There are Mothers’ Union members all around the world and every day, wherever they are, they pray for each other. The members are grouped together in what we call ‘linked dioceses’. Every five days throughout the year, one group of linked dioceses becomes the special focus for the prayer of the whole MU. This is called the ‘Wave of Prayer’.
During a five-day slot, the members of the ‘linked dioceses’ hold special prayer meetings, which are timed to ensure that there is continuous prayer between 8am and 8pm every day. A special prayer leaflet is produced each year, by Oxford diocese, to be used by our members. This leaflet is also sent to our linked dioceses, with translations into French and Swahili, where English is not well understood.
Our linked dioceses are: Aru, Boga and Kisangani in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Owerri, Orlu, Okigwe North and Okigwe South in Nigeria.
Each year, the Wave of Prayer falls on us between 11th and 15th June. This is when we pray for each other and when the whole Mothers’ Union prays for us during their midday prayers.
See our Download section for copies of the Wave of Prayer leaflet.
