How you can get involved

There are nearly 2,400 members of the Mothers' Union in Oxford Diocese. The majority are branch members but as the pace of modern living continues to accelerate and work and family calls become ever more demanding we find that Diocesan Membership is growing. The branches are the backbone of the Diocesan organisation and have been for many years; they offer fellowship as well as the opportunity to serve the MU in many different ways. The opportunities are still there for the Diocesan Members but fellowship has to be sought in Deanery and Diocesan meetings.

The MU structure calls for various units to be formed.

  • The Faith and Policy Unit looks after our spiritual aims together with social policy.
  • The Marketing Unit carries the burden of presenting the MU to the outside world as an effective Christian organisation dedicated to the support of the family in all aspects.
  • Action and Outreach take responsibility for most of the projects operating in the Diocese, prison work, parenting courses, toddler groups, relief holidays etc.
  • Finance and Admin try to ensure that the resources needed by the other units are always available and that the Diocese complies with the requirements of the Revenue and the Charity Commissioners.

These Units also provide Trustees and as the units work together with central units at Mary Sumner House (our international headquarters) links are formed that often take Diocesan leaders into the central leadership roles. These areas of responsibility are open to both branch and Diocesan members.
