A garden party in June, lovely weather, beautiful gardens. Well, two out of three isn’t too bad!!!
The Diocesan members garden party was held in Bishop Alan’s garden, Great Missenden. The trustees were on hand to help with setting up and preparing the wonderful afternoon tea, and Pat Weeks, our MUe representative, was doing a lively trade in all things Mothers’ Union including 2017 diaries and calendars!
At the very start of the afternoon it was evident that Alison (and Rennie who was travelling with her), various sandwiches, cake, milk, tea etc., would at the very least be late arriving, as they were stuck in traffic on the motorway, so the local Co-op was called into action with new supplies being bought. When the guests arrived they enjoyed the tea and food and there was plenty of conversations going on. BUT …… then the rain came – from a gentle drizzle to a very noisy downpour. So noisy in fact that at our communion service, led by Bishop Alan, the prayers and reading had to be ‘shouted’. Fortunately Alison and Rennie arrived in time for our communion service.
Our thanks go to Bishop Alan, Lucy and their family for making us so welcome, and for all their help on the day.
