Diocesan Emergency Fund

When parts of our diocese were badly flooded, we wanted to make some kind of immediate response to help those who were suffering.

We have set up a fund so that Mothers’ Union or Church Groups can apply for up to £200 start-up money to help those whose lives have been devastated by some kind of disaster.

This money is not designed to give people those things that the statutory authorities are meant to supply, but to fund a project that local people think would aid their afflicted neighbours. Maybe help with providing start-up costs for a ‘Soup kitchen’ or help buy the refreshments for a temporary drop in centre – whatever the idea, the needs will be specific to a local community for a brief period of time and is designed to help in any situation that is a real emergency – either natural or manmade.

In the initial instance, a church or Mothers’ Union group that sees a need and opportunity to help families (of all shapes, sizes and ages) should complete and submit the form here. A decision will be made as soon as possible as we know that in these circumstances things need to happen fast.

Verse of the Day

“When he had called together all the people’s chief priests and teachers of the law, he asked them where the Messiah was to be born. ‘In Bethlehem in Judea,’ they replied, ‘for this is what the prophet has written: ‘“But you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah; for out of you will come a ruler who will shepherd my people Israel.”’” — Matthew 2:4-6 Listen to chapter Copyright © 1973, 1978, 1984, 2011 by Biblica.
