Newport Pagnell Mothers’ Union decided that sometimes we need to work on projects which will help the local community which often has needs of its own. Unfortunately, schools and teachers have to deal more and more with children who are going through bereavement, either the death of someone close to them or a divorce or separation. It can be difficult to know exactly how to deal with this. So, the local primary schools were approached to see if a box of books written especially for children in this situation would be helpful. The response was very positive. The books were carefully selected and we put them in a box, each book in a separate compartment.
The staff are very grateful and in one case the box of books is to be used in a training session at a staff meeting. We felt, also, that it was a way of introducing Mothers ’Union into schools and we hope this may lead onto other ways of working with young people in our community.
